FASHION // Lucy Dang

I rarely get to experience a world in fashion. Last weekend, I was invited to attend the Lucy Dang Insider Preview Party. Dallas has always been about the southern belle which perfectly describes the aesthetic of Lucy Dang. At the end of January, Lucy gave an Insider Preview Party for her new collection. Delicately placed in her former studio space on the South Side of Lamar, she carefully placed four pieces that showcased Lucy's go-to silhouette shapes. I mostly sipped wine, devoured their little tiny bites, and mingled with some of DFW's Fashion Elite. It was an incredibly party with tons of fun. It wasn't just about coming to celebrate another completed collection, it was about hanging out with creative people who love fashion and who love Lucy. With each new person I met, I asked them all the same thing, "How do you know Lucy?" and they would proceed to give me great stories how they met. Each person followed their story up with how "amazing", "talented", or "kind" Lucy is. And no doubt - she is. Her brand has exploded in the last three years and I am so excited that I had the chance to see her through that journey. Her clothes no doubt make you feel beautiful and lady-like. I've sported a fair share of her pieces from her archives and each one made me feel special and unique. All her frocks are inviting and not intimidating. They perfectly highlight the limbs and features that all women possess - the soft nape of the neck, the long limbs, the slender shoulders and the curves of the hips.

As far as the photography goes, I always try to keep with the ambiance of the event attend. I was a guest not a hired photographer so I wanted to blend in. Flashing lights were too much and it didn't reflect the mood of the party either. All the photos are blue toned due to the party's lights. I enjoyed it. Despite the coolness of blue colored images, I think the overall shade gave a distinct magnetism that you wouldn't get with white lights or even complete darkness with spotlights.

Lucy's husband, photographer Brandon Lyon, gave her these roses which saved and used as inspiration for this dress.

Seeing Lucy transform into a household name in Dallas in such a short time made me realize that people can do anything when they want it. Being business savvy and smart, Lucy took what she wanted and made it into a reality. There's no sign of her stopping even with a new husband and a baby on the way. This party was the fuel I needed to keep me going towards my own aspirations. Lucy knows my dreams as a photographer. Right at the start of the party, I briefly tell her what's been happening in my life and what I have planned for the future. Listening carefully, she tells me "Follow your heart. Just follow your heart." Then she was whisked away to greet other guests and the party went on.
