PERSONAL // Pumpkin
Every morning at work, my usual day routine involves saying hello to my co-workers. But one morning, I visited my co-worker Stephanie at her desk. She looked upset. Asking her if things were okay, she suddenly started to cry. Her sweet pet, Pumpkin, was diagnosed with cancer. As I stood there rubbing her back, I wanted to say something comforting. I wanted to console her but the reality of her dog's condition was too intense. For a little bit, I watched her dab her eyes with her tissue holding back even more tears. Then it hit me - the best way to face really sad moments is to embrace the happy ones. And the only way I could help my co-worker to do that was to offer a pro bono photo shoot for her and Pumpkin. It was the probably the best way I could offer my sympathies and celebrate two best friends.
My Personal Favorite photo of Pumpkin
It was a fun and really laid back time. We had the best weather that day with just a slight wind. The Arbor Hills Nature Preserve was PACKED that day so we had run into a ton of other dogs too. The one thing I've noticed is that people aren't always keen to take photos. You have to force them to smile or pose. You even have to make stupid jokes just to get a good laugh. But when they are with their pets - they just light up and feel so much more comfortable. There's a genuine happiness you can't fake. Truly - animals make people really happy. Maybe it's time to get a dog... Pumpkin is a sweet sweet dog. She's really kind and soft. She always greets me at work and sheds all over my shirt when I hug her. She loves the water and she sure loves Stephanie. As I type this, my eyes are glazing over trying not to cry. We don't know how much time they have left together. But I hope these photos will be comforting in the future. Please pray for Pumpkin's condition & Stephanie's well-being. We love you Pumpkin!
